May Day/ Raider's Cup

Today was a very exciting day. We started out the day with our May Day activities and the qualifying round for the Raider's Cup. The kids had a great time playing on all of the inflatable things and winning prizes at the games. It was a hard decision for many of them to divide up their raffle tickets. The kids also competed in "Minute-to-Win It" tasks for the Raider's Cup. They did a great job. In the afternoon, we all went back to the gym for the final Raider's Cup. Grace L. represented our class and did a fabulous job. We had many winners for the prize baskets as well. It was a day filled with a lot of fun and activities.

Happy (early) Brithday Ryan!!

Today we celebrated another early birthday. We opened Ryan's birthday book since his birthday is in the summer. Ryan brought two books. One was Lego Pirates: Brickbeard's Treasure by Hannah Dolan. The second book was Lego Hero Factory: Meet the Heroes by Shari Last. We read the pirate book today and plan to read the hero book tomorrow. The kids love Legoes to begin with, so they loved the book. The story was really cute as well. These book are DK Readers which are great for the kids to read by themselves. They are two great additions to the classroom library.

Happy (early) Brithday Dominic!

Today we celebrated Dominic's birthday. We celebrated a little early since his birthday is in the summer. Dominic brought in Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- Watch Out for Jabba the Hutt! It is a DK Readers book Level 1. These are great because the kids can read them by themselves. Once again, the kids had to help me with names and who the good guys are. I am getting better with some of my names and characters, but many of them still give me a hard time. The kids love teaching the teacher. It is another great book to add to the collection!

Happy Birthday Katie Z.!

Today we celebrated Katie Z.'s birthday. She brought in a great story and was so excited about it all day. She brought Penguin and Pinecone: A Friendship Story by Salina Yoon. The story was really cute about a penguin who finds a pinecone and makes it his friend. He discovers that the pinecone belongs in the forest, so he takes it to the forest and plants it. He later returns to find his pinecone has grown into a tall pine tree. He makes another penguin friend who finds another pinecone and they do the same thing. The story says that when you give love, it grows. It is true. The kids loved the story and so did I.

Happy Birthday Colin!

Today we celebrated Colin's birthday. He brought in Star Wars: Who Saved the Galaxy? by Catherine Saunders. Being a girl, I am not very familiar with the Star Wars stories and characters. The boys were quick to fill me in on who everyone was and what everyone did. They also helped me with some of the names in the book. The kids and I enjoyed learning about the Star Wars characters. It was a good choice to add to the classroom library.

Guest Speaker

On Thursday, we had a guest speaker. We have spent a lot of time in the past weeks talking about the ocean and the different animals that live there. My aunt is a scuba diver. She came to share some of her dive experiences with us. The kids loved listening to what she had to say and what she brought to show us.

We saw many pictures of fish and different sea creatures she has seen.

The kids were excellent listeners and a great audience.

We saw all of the gear she wears when she goes scuba diving.

She passed around her wet suits for the kids to look at and feel.
