Happy Thanksgiving!

On Monday, the whole first grade took part in a Thanksgiving tradition. The Pilgrims and Indians came together to share in a meal. Mrs. Schultz's class were the Pilgrims and we were the Indians. In the morning, the kids helped make our Friendship Soup. We made cornbread in the afternoon. We of course finished the day by sharing in the meal together. The kids had a great time during the day and enjoyed celebrating Thanksgiving.

Blend Bingo

On Friday, we played BINGO. Instead of playing with regular numbers, we played with words that have blends at the beginning of them. It was a fun way to practice listening for blends and finding words with the same blends. The kids had a great time.

Grandparent's Day

Friday we celebrated Grandparent's Day in conjunction with Veteran's Day. We had a fabulous Mass in the morning followed by activities in the classroom. The kids had a great time showing their grandparents around the room and the school and sharing some of the things we have been doing. Here are some great pictures from the day.

Happy Birthday Xavier!

Today we celebrated Xavier's birthday. We have made it past Halloween and now we are reading Christmas books. Xavier brought in The Best Thing About Christmas by Christine Harder Tangvald. The book is an excellent reminder that Jesus is by far the best thing about Christmas. There are a lot of exciting and fun things about Christmas, but we would not even have Christmas if Jesus had not been born. I hope we can remember this throughout the coming holiday season!

Book Fair

Today we went to the book fair. Many of the kids had money to spend to buy books and goodies. It was a difficult choice picking just the right thing to buy. Overall, the kids did a good job picking books.

Happy Birthday Ben!

Today we celebrated Ben's birthday. He brought Despicable Me 2: Meet the Minions. The kids loved hearing the book since most of them have seen the movie. They all anticipated what was going to happen next. The book is perfectly leveled for first grade, so the kids will be able to read the book on their own with little help. It is a great addition to the classroom library.

Happy Halloween!

Friday we celebrated Halloween at school. The kids came to school in their costumes to help celebrate. We did backwards trick-or-treating where the kids put toiletry items in teachers' bags to vote for their favorite teacher costume. All of the items were donated to those less fortunate. Here are some pictures of the kids in their costumes. We had a little bit of everything. They all loved being dressed up for the day.
