Ice Cream Party

Today, we continued to celebrate Dairy Week. We had some dairy crafts and an ice cream party. The kids had a great time doing both.

We made cows with paper plates.

The ice cream was delicious!

We had a lot of toppings to choose from.

The kids had been so excited all day!

They devoured the ice cream!

It was a great time!

Dairy farm Trip

On Tuesday, we went to the dairy farm to see how the cows are milked and learn about how we get our milk. The kids had a great time and were wonderful!

We received our introduction to the farm from one of the owners.

We went into the milk house to see where the milk is stored.

The big tank on the left is where they keep the milk.

We saw how and where the cows get milked.

The workers hooked the cows up to the machines.

We were up close and personal with the cows.

We made some new friends.

I love the cow poking her head through the gate.

We saw some baby calves. They were six weeks old.

The babies were very friendly.

The babies were the most popular stop on our tour.

We got a lesson in getting our three servings of dairy each day.

We got a snack of cheese.

Finally, we played a matching game.

Happy Birthday MaKenzie!

On Friday, we celebrated MaKenzie's seventh birthday. She brought The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. I love this book. Normally, I read this book when we do our unit on rainforests. The kids rarely realize that the book is about someone cutting down the trees in the rainforest. They often just know that it is a Dr. Seuss book with rhymes. We talked about saving the rainforest before we read the book. As always, Dr. Seuss had me tongue-tied throughout the story and the kids love that. It was another great birthday book addition to our classroom library!

Happy Birthday Grace H.!

Today we celebrated Grace H.'s birthday. She brought the book Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon by Patty Lovell. It was a great feel-good book that reinforces to the kids to be proud of yourself no matter what you look like, what you are good at, how clumsy you are, or how tall you are. We talked about how God made us all different for a reason and to be proud of the way He made you. The kids loved the book and the pictures. It was a great way to end the week.

Happy Birthday Mary!

We celebrated Mary's birthday a day late. Mary brought in Happy Birthday to You! by Dr. Seuss. It was a very appropriate choice for a birthday book. As always from Dr. Seuss, it was quite a tongue-twister. The kids love it when I get a little tongue tied when reading a story and today was no different. Overall, it was a great book for the kids.

Word Family Robots

Today we made Word Family Robots. Each child got a different word family and had to come up with different words in that word family to put on their robot. We have decorated the hall with our robots. Here are the kids with their robots.

Happy Birthday Luke!

Friday was Luke's birthday. We read his book today. He brought in Oh Say Can You Say Dinosaur? by Dr. Seuss. We read the book and the kids loved how they sounded out some of the different dinosaur names. Since we did out unit study on dinosaurs, the kids love learning about them. The kids enjoyed the book as well. I gave Luke the option of keeping the book with our dinosaur books or our Dr. Seuss books; he chose the dinosaur books. It was another great pick for a book.
