Busy, Busy, Busy

It has been awhile since I have last posted something. We have been so busy here in first grade it is hard to find time to sit down and write about it. We have been doing all sorts of fun things this past week.

Last Friday, we made butterfly life cycles out of different kinds of noodles. The kids always enjoy seeing how things will come together. They learn the differnt parts of a butterfly's life while having a great time doing it. They love to see what the next kind of noodle will be. They could not wait to take them home on Monday.

Friday marked the end of the magazine sale. As a school, we reached our goal of $70,000. The money raised from the magazine sale makes up about 67% of the PTO budget. The success of the sale will help fund more activities and programs in the school.

Students are starting to fill up their sticker charts. As they fill up their chart, they will receive a coupon for show and tell. I already had some students tell me they already know what they are going to bring. Show and tell is a great time to work on the students' oral language development while showing something they are passionate about or something they love.

Reading groups are in full swing. The students have gotten the hang of the groups, the activities, and the rotations. Each week, we go through six reading group rotations two times. Some activities stay the same and some change. It has been great to have so much extra help during this time from Mrs. Tepp, Mrs. Rudolf, Mrs. Strange, and Mrs. Curley. They really have helped make our reading block a success.

The rest of the week is going to be a busy one. Tomorrow is our kick-off for our new Positive Behavior Program and Friday is the final Magazine Sale Celebration. It will be busy, but it will be fun.
